Meet the Founder:
Renee Wright, MPA
In 2019, Renee relocated from New York to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Myrtle Beach. However, she quickly realized the challenge of finding social circles that reflected her identity and experiences. This sense of disconnect was not unique, many transplants of color shared similar struggles.
In response, Renee founded Black Myrtle Beach in 2021 as a social media group, creating a central hub for community connection, cultural engagement, and business networking among People of Color in the area.
By 2023, Black Myrtle Beach achieved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, marking a significant milestone toward its broader mission: to empower new Black-owned businesses with the education, resources, and funding needed to build strong, sustainable foundations for entrepreneurial success.
Black Myrtle Beach is rapidly approaching 10,000 members across all platforms, affectionately referring to themselves as “CUZZINS.”
Renee serves as the Executive Director, leading the coordination of five annual signature events and developing additional opportunities for the 'Cuzzins to connect.
